Digging the Pit
And so it was that the opportunity of the pit became so
wide and large, almost the size of the internet.
“It is a good opportunity,” thought one of the men Digging
the pit. Later, he even said that same thing out loud.
What is the difference between the opportunity and the
thought of the opportunity? Surely something.
Someone came up with the opportunity, and others believed
it. Some people believed in the opportunity so much that
they hated those who did not.
It was offensive to them, and they spat in disgust whenever
they thought of it.
The opportunity was a point of pride. “We now live in a
place worthy of such Digging, such a pit, and such an
opportunity,” thought the residents of the city.
The War of the Opportunity of the Pit
News of the opportunity of the pit and of Digging the pit spread
wide. Visitors came to see the pit for themselves. New violence
occurred daily. But the violence was profitable, so the residents
agreed the Digging should continue.
They didn’t have a say in the matter, but no one seemed upset.
One local account posted video after video sharing the wonders of
the pit and the Digging of the pit. However, upon tracking the IP
address, it was determined that the user was either
bot or figment.
The Counter-Population of the Pit
Another faction of the population of the pit has splintered off. They
have a very fresh and bold social media presence and are attracting
global attention. They have been awarded sponsorship deals from
legitimate brands who are represented alongside a constantly
shifting set of opinions about the pit and the people commonly
associated with the pit (the architects, Diggers, prominent
residents, the rich men, and politicians).
It is disorienting, watching too much of this content. It is hard for
any single person to hold all these pit-related opinions, even if they
are mostly positive.
Opinions do not take up physical space, but in this case, they
might.
